Sorting Out Separation brings together a range of services to give you the information and advice you need to help you through the transition to new family arrangements. These transistions can commonly arise at the point of separation, when repartnering, in step family formation and when children are approaching a new developmental stage.
Sorting out Separation co-ordinates a range of services including counselling, mediation, seminars and group programs for you and your family.
We can help you to improve communication, make decisions about parenting matters and sort out the best residence and contact arrangements for you and your children. We can also guide you through the development of co-operative parenting arrangements and provide you with parenting advice, counselling and dispute resolution services. We can also refer you to specialist financial and legal advice if required.
We can provide:
-
Post-separation information seminars for women and men
-
Group programs and seminars e.g. on parenting or relationships
-
Separate and joint counselling sessions to assist you and your partner with your separation
-
Mediation or dispute resolution around children’s issues or financial matters.
We may ask your permission to have a child specialist consultant speak with your child to see if they need extra support at this time. We may also need to contact your ex-partner and where appropriate grandparents, step family members or other relevant family members.
We have an experienced team of family consultants with qualifications and experience in dealing with post separation issues. Their qualifications exceed the approval requirements of the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department. Professional supervision and on-going training are provided to all clinical staff to ensure a high quality of service. Clinicians use a range of approaches, based on what is appropriate for clients and their particular issues.
The fee for counselling per session is based on a sliding scale, according to household income.
You may be referred or ordered by the Family Court to attend our service but referral is not required, simply telephone us for an appointment. Day and evening appointments are available at all branches. Waiting times for an appointment vary according to the current level of demand and your availability. Call 1300 364 277 for the cost of a local call, to be put through to your closest office of Relationships Australia.
There are other Relationships Australia services in the After Separation section.
