Building better relationships : for young women
Building Better Relationships uses the stories of 5 different young women facing issues in their lives such as:
• Planning and decision making
• Valuing yourself
• Establishing quality, respectful relationships
• Communicating well
• Setting and reaching goals
- all issues that most young women can easily relate to.
Using photography, audio tracks of the women’s stories, the stories told focus on a variety of situations – leaving home, career and study options, peer relationships, self esteem, body image, romantic attachments, the question of ‘settling down’ and beginning a family.
The program then moves on to exploring the issues faced by the women using a variety of information, tips sheets, and interactive activities as well as providing opportunities for reflection and journaling.
The design of the CD-ROM is based on a ‘scrap-booking’ theme and the various components work together to make a guidebook for young women to keep.
The idea of the CD-ROM followed the development and distribution of RANSW’s very successful Best Dads resource. Almost 100,000 copies of this have been distributed to fathers across Australia over the past few years. The development of the program was funded by the Office of Women’s Policy, NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet. The production and distribution of the resource has been funded by research and development funding from our Australian Government grants from FAHCSIA.
Following the launch on Friday 2nd July, 20,000 of the discs will be available for distribution through our 24 Relationships Australia locations across the state, from our website via email as well as being available through TAFE colleges and community libraries.
