What is the Parenting Orders Program?

The Parenting Orders Program in the Illawarra aims to help families who have difficulty, or experience conflict, in adhering to child residence and parenting orders made by the court, or as agreed by the parents in out of court arrangements.

Any member of a family who has experienced separation and is having difficulty keeping to court orders or other arrangements can attend, and where appropriate children will be involved and have a voice within this program.  The Program includes child focused seminars, groups for children and teenagers (Home2Home), Parenting After Separation courses, support groups for parents, and specialist groups to support fathers after separation.

Families work with a counsellor who manages their case and designs an individual plan of support to assist the family throughout this difficult time.

Who will I see?

We have an experienced team of counsellors/parenting consultants with qualifications and experience in Social Work, Psychology, Mediation and/or Counselling. Staff in this Program have also undertaken specialist training in the needs of children, including training in Child Consultation. They have been specifically trained to understand the developmental needs of children experiencing divorce and separation. Their qualifications meet the approval requirements of the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department, who fund this Program.

Professional supervision and on-going training are provided to all counsellors to ensure a high quality of service.

What will it cost?

The fee for sessions in the Parenting Orders Program is minimal and according to ability to pay.  Although many referrals are made from the Court, no official referral is required. Simply telephone for an appointment. Waiting times for an appointment vary according to current level for demand, but an initial assessment appointment can usually be organised within two weeks.

Are there related services?
