The vision of Relationships Australia NSW is for an inclusive, harmonious society which promotes and supports respectful and resilient relationships, families and communities.

Our purpose is to contribute to this vision by:

• Promoting the wellbeing of people of all ages, and empowering them to make positive choices in their lives;
• Helping people to establish and strengthen relationships; and manage change and conflict safely;
• Helping families of all types to raise children;
• Strengthening people's connections to their communities; and
• Influencing community attitudes.

Our strategies for 2009 – 2012 are to:

• Deliver great services to enhance the wellbeing of people of all ages in our families and communities.
• Grow and share our knowledge to improve services and influence the community and social policy and support the human services workforce including through higher education and vocational education programs.
• Build a dynamic workplace culture and effective systems to support our people in their work.
• Create a thriving organisation to ensure our future sustainability.

The principles that guide what we do include:

1. To listen and seek to understand the needs of each person in the context of their relationships, families and communities.
2. Include and listen to children and young people, in order to support their best interests.
3. Recognise and respect the uniqueness and complexity of each person’s situation and experience, and offer services tailored to respond to their needs.
4. Respect diversity, and strive to deliver flexible and responsive services to meet the diverse needs of people and their communities.
5. Recruit talented staff and support their ongoing professional development.
6. Provide leadership through a capable and cohesive management team, effectively managing our resources and accountabilities.

8. Continually learn and improve our work through ongoing research and evaluation, and stay attuned to Australian and international developments.

We foster continuous improvement in the knowledge, skills and understanding of professionals, through our research in relationships counselling, mediation and associated fields, and our commitment to the enhancement of our higher education and vocational education programs in response to ongoing scholarship of learning and teaching.
